NATO deputy assistant secretary general for operations informed about landmine threat in Azerbaijan

The delegation of the Demining Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) led by its Deputy Chairman Samir Poladov, and the mission of Azerbaijan to NATO held a meeting with Burcu San, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Operations in Brussels, Report informs referring to AzerTac.

During the meeting, the ANAMA delegation provided an insight into the scale of the landmine threat in the Azerbaijani territories, the challenges encountered in this area and the measures taken to address the problem.

Mentioning the humanitarian, economic and environmental impacts of landmines in Azerbaijan, Samir Poladov, stressed that since November 2020, 379 Azerbaijanis have been killed and injured by landmine explosions. He also underscored that landmines have seriously delay the return of internally displaced persons to their native lands, as well as the restoration and reconstruction works in these territories.

The meeting also addressed cooperation in humanitarian demining, application of innovative technologies.
