Zakharova: Russia familiar with Azerbaijan's program for reintegration of Armenian population

Russia is familiar with Azerbaijan's plan to reintegrate Karabakh Armenians, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, commenting on the issue of the return to Karabakh of Armenians who voluntarily left it, Report informs.

Moreover, she suggested that this population can be called differently, including "living there until recently", and not only as the Armenian journalist tried to formulate it as "indigenous". "Does the Armenian side have any detailed program on this matter? If there was any, I would comment on it. Why are you asking a representative of another state about how we saw it? We [Russia] are encouraging the parties to resolve this issue, but as you understand, without implementing the agreements that were reached, it is quite difficult to do this," she said.

Zakharova emphasized that Russia proceeds from the trilateral agreements that were reached by Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia in 2020 and later. According to her, they still form the basis of Azerbaijani-Armenian reconciliation: "And we believe that there is no alternative to them."

The Foreign Ministry representative noted that the trilateral agreement covers all key tracks for normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan, including the development of a peace treaty, delimitation, demarcation of the border, unblocking transport communications in the region, and the development of contacts through civil society.

She also emphasized that Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization was discussed in detail during the recent state visit of the Russian president to Azerbaijan.
