John Spencer: Disinformation operations played significant role during 44-day war

Azerbaijan's military operations during the 44-day Patriotic War were not limited to the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, but included complex ground operations, coordination of various units, and disinformation of the enemy, author of the book, Chair of Urban Warfare Studies at the Modern War Institute at the United States Military Academy at West Point, and Co-Director of the Urban Warfare Project John Spencer said at the presentation of the book "The War for Karabakh: Strategy, Technology, and Victory", Report informs.

Spencer paid special attention to the planning and conduct of large-scale disinformation operations, noting their significance in terms of studying the experience of modern wars.

According to him, the Azerbaijani army, in certain cases when breaking through the enemy's defensive lines proved impossible, moved on to the implementation of alternative plans.

"In this regard, a disinformation operation, the goal of which was to convince the enemy that the main offensive was developing in a different direction, is of particular interest. The approach used in Garabagh demonstrates how large-scale and multifaceted disinformation operations can be in modern military history. It made it possible to distract the enemy's attention from the main direction, influence the deployment of its defensive forces, and create conditions for conducting military operations in other sectors of the front," he added.
