Azerbaijan has done a great job in the direction of demining, Director of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) Ilene Cohn said in an online address to the participants of the 2nd International Conference on “Mine Action – the Path to Reaching the Sustainable Development Goals” in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam, Report informs.
According to Cohn, the UN will continue to assist countries in mine clearance and help prevent the spread of landmines.
Unfortunately, Azerbaijan is among the countries most contaminated by landmines, she noted, adding that despite this, the Azerbaijani government has done significant work towards mine clearance.
She also expressed gratitude to the staff of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) for their cooperation.
