Minjivan settlement is located on the bank of the Araz River. It was formed as a result of the settlement of families who came from the Minjivan village of South Azerbaijan due to famine in 1795-1798, and the name of that village was given to the new settlement. In the 19th century, two villages named Minjivan were recorded in Zangazur district.
The settlement was occupied by Armenian Armed Forces in 1993. Before the occupation, there were residential buildings, schools, libraries, kindergartens, and a railway station in the area. After the First Karabakh War, Armenians destroyed all residential buildings, schools, libraries, kindergartens, and also dismantled and took away the railway lines.
