The international community should more actively support Azerbaijan in humanitarian demining, German traveler Thomas Preinl told Report.
"It is necessary to clear the liberated Azerbaijani lands from landmines as soon as possible. This should be a priority for the UN and other organizations," he said.
He noted that landmines are a tragic reality that civilians face even after the end of the war.
"I have been to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Balkans. But it was only here, in Karabakh, that I first truly encountered the scale of this problem. In most cases, ordinary people who simply step on them [landmines] suffer," he noted.
Thomas Preinl added that he fully supports the idea of a global ban on anti-personnel mines.
