Staff of UN offices in Azerbaijan visited war-affected districts

The three-day visit of the staff of the UN offices in Azerbaijan to conflict-affected Barda, Aghdam, and Tartar districts has ended.

Report informs that the visit aimed to discuss work carried out by the UN in these districts, current humanitarian needs, as well as coordination of activities.

The visitors met with the Heads of the Executive Powers and representatives of the communities that suffered from the conflict.

After the cessation of the military operations, the UN office in Azerbaijan took urgent measures to meet the humanitarian needs of the people, who temporarily left the residential areas as a result of the conflict. Closely cooperating with the Azerbaijani government, the UN implemented some missions to assess the needs in order to identify and prioritize the necessary needs in food, shelters, hygiene, mine risk education, medical services, psychological and social support, as well as education.

Along with the financial assistance of the UN agencies in Azerbaijan, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) allocated $2 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to support the humanitarian activity.
