State Committee: Private Ashurov prevents serious tragedy in Kalbajar

In Kalbajar District, private Mardali Ashurov, his colleagues, and commanders defused a mine and prevented a serious tragedy, Report informs referring to the head of a department under the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, Sanan Huseynov.

Commenting on the discovery of a mine in Kalbajar’s Gunashli village during the trip of former internally displaced persons to their native lands, Huseynov said.

"On April 16, we organized a trip for a group of former internally displaced persons to Kalbajar District. During the trip, we visited a tunnel in which civilians were brutally killed by Armenians. Then we split into two groups. Some of the participants went to Bashlibel, while others, together with the media, went to the village of Gunashli. We visited graves of martyrs at the cemetery in Gunashli. We were accompanied by sappers of the Ministry of Defense. Private Mardali Ashurov discovered an anti-tank mine on our way. He, his colleagues and commanders ensured our safety. They defused the mine, preventing a serious tragedy."

Sanan Huseynov recalled that after the November 10, 2020, tripartite statement, Kalbajar District was supposed to come under the control of Azerbaijan, but the Armenians asked for a delay.

“The leadership of our country showed humanism and provided them with 15 days of additional time. Throughout all these days, Armenians burned and destroyed houses, planted mines in our territories. They pursued the goal - to prevent the return of internally displaced persons to their lands. The reliability of the mine maps handed over by the Armenians is only 20%. We, as former internally displaced persons, are asking international organizations to help us clear mine-contaminated territories. Because mine clearance today is a big problem, an expensive process. The world must help us," Huseynov added.
