State Commission: There might be other human remains under mass grave in Edilli

“It is assumed that the remains of other people who died during the First Karabakh War may be under the mass grave discovered in the Edilli village of the Khojavand district,” Zaur Ismayilov, a member of the Azerbaijani State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, told Report.

According to him, excavations will be continued after the currently discovered remains are removed from the general cemetery.

“And not only in the territory of this mass grave but in the entire Khojavand district. These works will be continued as long as other areas freed from the occupation are cleared of mines,” Ismayilov said.

He stressed that the remains of 12 people, believed to be Azerbaijani militaries, will be examined for identification and then handed over to their relatives.

“However, considering that nearly 30 years have passed since the death of those persons, this work may be delayed,” Zaur Ismayilov added.
