Shvydkoi: Azerbaijani, Russian presidents have long-term friendly relations

The issue of reconciliation between Azerbaijan and Armenia requires precision in solving a number of problems, including in the process of delimitation and demarcation of borders, and Russia is ready to assist the parties in this matter, Special Representative of Russian President on International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi told Report.

He stressed that Russia “is highly interested in establishing peace in the Caucasus.”

He noted that Russia exercised restraint during the Second Karabakh war: “We tried to do everything so as not to destroy our relations with Azerbaijan, which is our partner, and with Armenia.”

Shvydkoi added that “the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia have long-term friendly relations.”

He said that at this stage it is necessary to think about how to reconcile not only states, but also peoples: “The history of the last 30 years has turned upside down in 2020... Today, the main thing is to understand that there is no alternative to peace, because war won’t bring happiness to either nation.”
