Shaffer: Armenians used resources of liberated Azerbaijani lands, causing huge destruction to nature

Azerbaijan plays an important role in European energy security, Brenda Shaffer, a professor at Georgetown University, a well-known energy expert, told reporters, Report informs.

“Physical security of energy infrastructure is an extremely important issue. Pipelines, grids, power plants are still targets of a war. We are discussing how to best protect infrastructure in Azerbaijan and how to deal with various security threats to this energy infrastructure in Azerbaijan,” she noted.

Speaking about the restoration of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, Shaffer highly appreciated the intention to develop ‘green’ energy in these lands, which will allow not to harm the environment.

“I really hope the approach in the liberated territories will indeed be green energy which fits well with the beautiful geography of the liberated territories. For instance, I recently visited the Jabrayil region and the Khudaferin bridge, and you see this huge hydropower plant that is built by Iran with the Armenian occupation authorities during the period of occupation that became upgraded from 2016 and this has huge destruction to the nature,” she said.
