"It has already been noted that Russia has undertaken certain mediation efforts to stop the bloodshed in the Nagorno-Karabakh zone, achieve a complete ceasefire, and start the stabilization process. Moreover, we tried to follow the key agreements reached in the OSCE Minsk Group," Putin added.

He recalled the trilateral agreement that was signed in November. "It is important that the joint is consistently implemented. Russian peacekeepers stationed along the line of contact spare no effort to prevent a new escalation of the situation, " the Russian leader said.

"We were all worried about the armed conflict in the region of Nagorno - Karabakh, in which the CIS member states, Azerbaijan and Armenia, which are close to all of us, are involved," Putin said. According to him, "the clashes that took place led to numerous human casualties, aggravated the already difficult situation in Transcaucasia as a whole, and increased the risks of spreading the terrorist threat."
