October 9 marks liberation of strategic townlet of Hadrut in Karabakh

Today is the day of liberation of Hadrut settlement in Khojavand District, Report informs that following counter-offensive operations of the Azerbaijani Army that started on September 27, 2020, the settlement of Hadrut was liberated from the enemy on October 9.

President Ilham Aliyev, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, broke the news of liberation of the settlement to the Azerbaijani people.

On the same day, along with Hadrut settlement, Chayli, Yukhari Guzlak, Gorazilli, Qishlag, Garajalli, Efendilar, Suleymanli and Sur villages were liberated from enemy occupation.

The operation to liberate the settlement and surrounding villages is also called the Battle of Hadrut. These battles are an operation in Hadrut and adjacent villages and heights occupied by Armenian troops during the First Karabakh War.

Thus, during the clashes, the Azerbaijani Army advanced on the southern front in early October and headed in an unexpected direction to Hadrut. The liberation of Hadrut was one of the operations that largely decided the fate of the war. Because the Azerbaijani Army headed for Shusha namely after the liberation of Hadrut. Therefore, the Hadrut battles played a great role in the liberation of Shusha. Because the enemy was waiting for the Azerbaijani military in Shusha from another direction.

Thus, heavy fighting began on October 7, and on October 9, the Azerbaijani Army took control of strategically important villages and heights near the settlement. Thus, the settlement and the above-mentioned villages were liberated from the enemy.

After that, the enemy, who could not stand the failure of the battles of Hadrut, began to spread false information. The Armenian leadership, Armenian officials and some foreign journalists, who poured water into the enemy mill, spread misinformation that Hadrut was allegedly under Armenian control.

On March 15 this year, Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev raised the state flag in Hadrut settlement and made a speech. In his speech, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief announced how Hadrut was liberated from occupation.

The president said that the liberation of Hadrut settlement was possible as a result of a very successful military operation.

“First of all, the surrounding mountains were taken. After the heights around Hadrut were taken over by the Azerbaijani Army, de facto control passed to the Azerbaijani Army, and the liberation of Hadrut was inevitable."

Today, reconstruction work is underway in Hadrut and in all liberated areas in general.
