Munira Subasic says 'important' that those who committed crimes in Karabakh come to justice

The president of the organization ‘Mothers of Srebrenica’ has welcomed the detention of war criminal Vagif Khachatryan.

"It is very important that the criminals who killed, took away your sons, tortured them, come to justice," Munira Subasic said, according to Report.

"This will only happen if you continue your fight for truth and justice. You must testify in court about the crimes the criminals committed against your sons. You must not give up justice. You must know that there is no statute of limitations on crime. Go to court, look the criminal in the eye and testify. Tell him the time has come for him to answer for his crimes. Dear mothers, you must fight, you must not give up the fight for justice. Don't teach children revenge and hatred, educate them and that will be your victory," she noted.

Vagif Khachatryan, as part of the Armenian military formations, committed a massacre of Azerbaijanis in the Meshali village of the Khojaly district on December 22, 1991.

As many as 25 Azerbaijanis were killed, 14 wounded, and 358 villagers became refugees. Vagif Cherkezovich Khachaturyan is brought to account under Articles 103 (genocide) and 107 (deportation or forced resettlement) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

As part of the criminal case, on July 29, he was detained by the servicemen of the State Border Service at the Lachin border checkpoint of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border while trying to leave for Armenia for treatment through the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The court chose a measure of restraint in the form of arrest against Khachatryan.
