Mexican envoy celebrates her country's Independence Day in Azerbaijan's Shusha

Ambassador of Mexico to Azerbaijan Maria Victoria Romero Caballero has celebrated her country's Independence Day in Shusha, Report informs referring to the Shusha State Reserve Administration.

"We were pleased to celebrate the 214th anniversary of the United Mexican States in Shusha, and welcome Ambassador Maria Victoria Romero Caballero to the cultural capital of Azerbaijan. We congratulate the Mexican people on this historic day and wish them continued development and prosperity!" the statement reads.

September 16 is Mexico's annual Independence Day. This date is dedicated to the beginning of the struggle for the liberation of Mexico from Spanish rule on September 16, 1810, in the city of Dolores.

The leader of the uprising was the priest Miguel Hidalgo, who was captured and executed by the colonial authorities in 1811. After that, the movement was led by Jose Maria Morelos. The Congress of Chilpancingo, convened by the rebels in 1813, adopted a declaration of independence, and in 1814, the first Constitution. Mexico's independence was finally proclaimed on September 28, 1821.
