The establishment by Azerbaijan of a checkpoint on the Lachin road is a huge fundamental change in the situation. The checkpoint is a direct and obvious manifestation of Azerbaijan's will to fully restore the country's sovereignty over the entire territory of Karabakh, Russian political scientist, director of the Center for Political Studies Sergey Markov told Report's Russian bureau.
The political scientist also commented on topics to be discussed at the upcoming trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia:
"Issues of the implementation of the trilateral agreement, demarcation and delimitation of borders, the functioning of transport corridors will definitely be discussed. And the main question is how the Armenian community of Karabakh will be integrated into Azerbaijan's statehood. Armenia's leadership sees that this will definitely happen, and they understand that Russia will not conflict with Azerbaijan," the political scientist concluded.
