Korotchenko: Europe’s role as mediator on Karabakh failed

Europe’s role as a moderator and mediator in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement was unsuccessful, Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko said at a press conference in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that the cessation of hostilities in the South Caucasus broke the arc of instability: "It is well known that this region is a point where there have always been many geopolitical players. Some of them didn’t want peace."

Korotchenko noted that despite the four resolutions of UN Security Council recognizing Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, the conflict remained unresolved for almost 30 years. Only after a fair war did Azerbaijan manage to liberate the occupied territories.

"What were the Armenians doing at that time? They were plundering resources. They didn’t leave behind a single whole building, just like after an atomic explosion. Only minefields are left," the Russian expert said.
