Hikmat Hajiyev: Tragedy in Khojaly - stain on international community and law

The tragedy in Khojaly is a stain on the international community and international law, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan -Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, said, speaking at the Baku conference on the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

He said that what happened in Khojaly was a blatant violation of international law.

Hajiyev noted that similar tragedies happened in both Rwanda and the Balkans, but in those cases, the international community and court were involved, which was not observed in the case with Khojaly. He called for justice and urged Armenia to remove this stain from their history by recognizing the genocide in Khojaly and apologizing.

Hikmat Hajiyev added that Khojaly was a well-prepared military operation aimed at seizing those lands and committing ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis.

According to the official, today, Azerbaijan looks into the future and tries to prevent the repetition of such events.
