GSISD director : Khojaly genocide is one of most inhuman acts in modern history

The Khojaly genocide committed by Armenia against Azerbaijanis is one of the most terrible and tragic inhumane acts in the modern history of humankind, the Executive Director of the Global Strategic Institute for Sustainable Development - GSISD Mohammed Shakeel Ahmed told Report.

"Today, we are in solidarity with the Azerbaijani people. Together, we oppose genocide in all its forms and manifestations. As we reaffirm our determination to prevent the recurrence of such atrocities, we are witnessing dangerous trends in xenophobia, racism and intolerance in many parts of the world. The roots of genocide, such as violence and hatred, offend our values and threaten human rights, social stability, sustainability and peace," he said, adding that wherever they occur, this evil must be identified, stopped and confronted in order to protect people and the planet as this is the only way to peace and prosperity.

"I call on all political, religious and civil society leaders to stop expressing hatred and discrimination and work to mitigate and address the root causes that undermine social cohesion creating conditions for hatred and intolerance," he said.

Mohammed Shakeel Ahmed also noted that the Khojaly tragedy is another reminder that efforts must be made to build a harmonious future together for all people around the world: "Together we can make the planet more inclusive, a place for a decent life."
