French expert: By refusing to present mine location maps, Yerevan is damaging its own interests

"By refusing to present mine location maps, Yerevan is damaging its own interests," French historian and political expert Maxime Gauin told Report's French bureau.

He said Armenia refused to ratify conventions on mines and several other weapons to use them against Azerbaijan.

"Since 1991, Armenians have never hesitated to put the lives of Azerbaijanis at risk. Yerevan refused to sign conventions banning mines and other weapons. They did so to use these weapons against Azerbaijan. In this issue, it has always been Yerevan's general stance."

The political expert noted that by refusing to present mine location maps, Armenia is damaging its own interests:

"After Armenia's defeat in the war, Nikol Pashinyan gradually understood the reality. But, unfortunately, some of the government officials and opposition representatives in Armenia remain ignorant. The deliberate use of prohibited methods, such as mines, against the civilian population, goes contrary to international law.

"However, besides the norms of international law, by not present mine location maps to its neighbor that liberated the lands owing to its militarily and technologically stronger army, Yerevan is damaging its own interests. In this way, it delays and postpones the prospects of normalizing relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan. These relations, in turn, are of great importance for Armenia's salvation and deliverance."
