Expert: Statement by CE Committee of Ministers, EU delegation absolutely biased

The anti-Azerbaijani statement of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and the EU delegation on October 18 is full of bias and unfair approach, Pakistani international relations analyst Khalid Taimur Akram told Report.

“The statement of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and the delegation of the European Union dated October 18 is full of bias and doesn’t correspond to reality. Azerbaijan, unlike Armenia, followed all the principles and norms of international law. The country invited the Armenians of Karabakh to stay and provided them with all the necessary assistance. All this was done by Azerbaijan despite that the Armenians didn’t even provide a corridor for Azerbaijani civilians to escape during the occupation of these lands during the First Karabakh War 30 years ago,” he said.

He noted that this statement also personifies double standards in relation to Azerbaijan.

“Unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan didn’t seize foreign territories, it liberated its own ones. Azerbaijan didn’t plant landmines on foreign lands, didn’t commit ethnic cleansing and didn’t destroy cultural monuments in order to erase from the earth even a hint of the presence of another people in Karabakh. For some reason, neither the Council of Europe nor the European Union at one time took any action to stop or at least condemn the actions of Armenia,” he concluded.
