Erdogan: Azerbaijan offers to start negotiations with Armenia on comprehensive peace agreement

Azerbaijan offers to start negotiations with Armenia on a comprehensive peace agreement, said President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Report informs.

Wishing that the new government of Armenia to be contributable to the region, the Turkish President said that the region needs new, constructive approaches: "Despite the difference of opinion, it would be a responsible move to develop good neighborly relations based on trust, including respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty. The recent past should not be a source of hostility. Constructive steps should be taken for lasting peace and living together. Instead of accusations, forward-looking and realistic approaches should prevail. We can work to gradually normalize our relations with the Armenian government, which has stated its readiness to move towards this direction."

According to him, peace and stability must be maintained, conditions for economic development and regional cooperation must be created: "Azerbaijan offers to start negotiations for a comprehensive peace agreement with Armenia in a similar way. As agreed in the trilateral declaration, uniting the whole region will create new opportunities to change the South Caucasus. We are ready to work with all parties who want to take advantage of this historic opportunity. We have five or six platform recommendations. The platform includes Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, and Armenia. We even said that we should include Georgia in this platform. If the platform was adopted in this way, I think the region would be more comfortable because the region needs railways and highways. By taking such a step, we'll solve the problems in the region. We agreed with Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev. In the meantime, a new President was elected in Iran. We can talk about this with the new President of Iran."
