As a result of rocket attacks by the Armenian Armed Forces on the peaceful cities of Azerbaijan, material damage of more than 47 million manats ($27.6 million) was inflicted, First Deputy Prosecutor General Elchin Mammadov said at an event dedicated to the second anniversary of the rocket attacks on Ganja, Report informs.
He noted that the investigation of criminal cases on the facts of Armenian shelling of Azerbaijani civilians continues.
He added that 26 people were killed during five major rocket attacks on Ganja in October 2020. One of the victims was a Russian citizen.
“All materials have been collected regarding the attack on the civilian population of Ganja. Human Rights Watch also spoke about the attack on Ganja and other cities that are not in the conflict zone. In addition, statements were made by Amnesty International and a number of other international organizations. Unfortunately, some countries kept silent about what happened,” Mammadov said.
He added that Azerbaijan applied to the International Court of Justice two times and presented all the facts and evidence of shelling of peaceful cities of Azerbaijan by Armenians.
Two years have passed since the city of Ganja was subjected to the fifth missile attack by Armenian armed forces during the Second Karabakh War. At around 1 a.m. on October 17, 2020, the SCUD/Elbrus ballistic missiles were treacherously fired into the peacefully sleeping settlement of Javadkhan in the center of Azerbaijan’s second largest city of Ganja, which is located far from the combat zone.
Residential buildings in the shelling area were completely destroyed, the residents were left under the rubble. As a result of the shelling, 15 people were killed, more than 55 civilians were injured, and significant damage was caused to civilian infrastructure and vehicles. The dead and injured included minors, women and the elderly.
