Deputy Minister: All traces of expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia were systematically destroyed

All traces of the expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia and the previously occupied territories of Azerbaijan were systematically destroyed, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov stated during the hearings at the International Court of Justice, Report informs.

“Armenia invaded and occupied a significant part of the territories of Azerbaijan to create a single, mono-ethnic Armenian state. In this case, all traces of the expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia and the previously occupied territories of Azerbaijan were systematically destroyed. All this for one reason: these people, these buildings, these cultural objects, this land - were Azerbaijani, and therefore their existence next to Armenia was, in the words of the Armenian government officials themselves, ‘impossible, incompatible, a tragedy in itself,’” said Elnur Mammadov.

Hearings on the lawsuit of Azerbaijan against Armenia are being held at the International Court of Justice today.

This is the second appeal of Azerbaijan with the aim of achieving urgent measures within the framework of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in response to the deliberate violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis by Armenia.

The hearings are being held at the Peace Palace in The Hague and presided over by Judge Joan Donoghue.
