Book on mine threat presented in Baku

Today the Baku Higher Oil School hosted a presentation of the book "Breaking Ground" by Heidi Kuhn, head of the international humanitarian organization, Roots of Peace, translated into Azerbaijani.

Report informs that the event was attended by Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku Higher School Rector Elmar Gasimov and others.

It was noted that the book tells about mine terror in war-affected countries.

“Civilians and the international community should not turn a blind eye to the mine problem. Mines buried in the ground are seeds of hatred and anger. And our task, as the Roots of Peace organization, is to fight this hatred,” said Heidi Kuhn, speaking at the event.

Kuhn also stressed that she stands in solidarity with the mothers of the victims of mines blown up in Karabakh and the world.

"We, as a global community, have both destructive and creative powers, so we must work together to combat mines," she added.

At the end of the event, Heidi Kuhn planted an olive tree symbolizing peace in the yard of the Oil School.
