Azerbaijan has sent a five-point proposal to the other side to normalize relations with Armenia and is currently waiting for a response, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told Anadolu Agency, Report informs.
He said that if Armenia wants to normalize relations, this is a very good opportunity for them. The minister added that the Azerbaijani side supports the normalization of relations with Armenia, despite all the difficulties and problems of the past.
“Armenia hasn’t been responding to our proposal for almost a year. Recently, the Azerbaijani side, as a sign of goodwill, made a new proposal to Armenia. If Armenia believes that it is no longer ready to work towards a ceasefire, the proposal can be a very comprehensive document, because we have offered the Armenian side some basic principles, including the normalization of relations between the two countries.
We expressed our opinion in accordance with the basic principles and traditions of regulating relations between states. Armenia should look into this and express its opinion. If Armenia sincerely wants to normalize relations, this is a very good opportunity for them. Armenia’s response will be known in the near future, and we will, of course, take appropriate steps.”
Noting that the proposal has been sent recently, Bayramov said: “This is a one-page document. Basic principles are revealed and formulated. I must say that all the principles mentioned in the document are the principles of international relations, there are no unusual comments there.”
The minister added that these proposals include the issue of determining the borders between the two countries.
“The preconditions for starting the process are unacceptable. A group of bilateral cooperation should be created, and this group should start its work. The proposal presented to Armenia a year ago remained unanswered. Looking at the reaction of the Armenian side to this second proposal, we will soon see how sincere it is,” Bayramov added.
