In May 2023, a conference on the mine problem will be held in Azerbaijan, Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Management Board of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), said during the annual high-level strategic consultations between the government of Azerbaijan and the UN in Aghdam, Report informs.
According to him, Azerbaijan has allocated a lot of funds for demining activities: "This is a big problem and challenge for us. The mine threat complicates and slows the return of IDPs to liberated areas."
The chairman emphasized that Azerbaijan's demining experience can be helpful for other countries as well.
"Since November 2020, 47 people have been killed as a result of a mine explosion, and two more people have died in Aghdam today," he added.
Suleymanov noted that the UN highly appreciates Azerbaijan's efforts in the field of demining and does not spare its support in this matter.
