"Contamination with mines hinders the process of reconstruction of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan and makes it difficult for the former IDPs to return to these lands," Aydin Karimov, special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha district, said at a conference on demining in Shusha jointly organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Azerbaijan Republic Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), Report informs.
Noting that ANAMA is trying to restore life in the territories freed from occupation, the President's special representative highly appreciated the new projects implemented by the agency in this direction.
Aydin Karimov emphasized that the liberation of Shusha from occupation during the Second Karabakh War had a symbolic meaning and that the first demining operations were launched in Shusha.
The President's special representative talked about the progress of the restoration works currently being carried out in Shusha and said that this city is of particular importance for every Azerbaijani.
