Anar Guliyev: Visit of UN-HABITAT executive director to Azerbaijan opened new chapter in co-op

Azerbaijan’s ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation effort explain the importance the country attaches to its partnership with the UN-Habitat, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev said during a ministerial round table meeting within the XI session of the World Urban Forum (WUF11) in Poland, Report informs.

The recent visit of Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT) Maimunah Mohd Sharif to Azerbaijan opened a new chapter in the cooperation, he added.

“We highly appreciate the significant role the Agency plays in furthering the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Azerbaijan. The discussion on the organization of the annual National Urban Forum this year in the city of Aghdam is in its final stages,” he said.

“We aim to organize it this October and I would like to avail myself of this opportunity to invite all of you to attend this forum which we hope to offer an excellent opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues related to post-conflict reconstruction processes.”

Guliyev also noted that Azerbaijan also supports UN-Habitat’s efforts globally. It is in the spirit of this support the Azerbaijani government has allocated $1.5 million to UN-Habitat as a voluntary contribution, he added.
