ANAMA: 77,890 hectares of land in Azerbaijan cleared of mines, 87,000 mines discovered

After the end of the Patriotic War in Azerbaijan, 77,890 hectares of land were cleared of mines, and 87,000 mines and unexploded ordnance were discovered, Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), said today at a briefing for representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan.

Speaking about the demining work carried out by ANAMA, Suleymanov noted that Azerbaijan is one of the countries most polluted by mines.

According to him, in total, 298 people hit mines in Azerbaijan in the post-war period, 53 of them died, and 245 people received various degrees of physical injuries: "In total, 3,377 people, including 358 children and 38 women, have been killed or injured due to mine explosions in Azerbaijan since 1991."
