Church bells silenced after 239 years in UK

Baku. 3 February. REPORT.AZ/  In UK a church has had its bells silenced at night after 239 years because one person complained they were too noisy, Report informs citing The Sun.

The resident said he could not sleep because of the chimes four times an hour.

Town hall bigwigs ruled the bells at St Peter’s Church, in Sandwich, Kent, cannot now ring between 11pm and 7am except for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

But angry parishioners say 85 per cent of those living near the church want the move reversed.

Carole George, leading the Save the Chimes campaign, said: “We simply want common sense.”

Dover district council leader Keith Morrish has written to Government ministers asking for clarification on the law.
