Safar Mehdiyev: Construction of Khanoba customs post to end in 2022

The completion of the construction and the installation works at the Khanoba customs post of the Northern Territorial Main Customs Administration, located on the border with the Russian Federation, is scheduled for 2022, Safar Mehdiyev, chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC), said in an interview with Report.

The chairman of the State Customs Committee emphasized that the movement of most of the goods transported along the North-South transport corridor through the Samur and Yarag-Gazmalar customs-border points has led to an increase in the flow density through them over recent years.

According to him, in this regard, Azerbaijan ensures the passage of about 50 empty trucks during the day through the customs posts Shirvanli (Azerbaijan Republic) - Novo-filya (the Russian Federation), from 09:00 until 18:00.

“Under an agreement with Russia, the passage of empty trucks in one direction began on October 8, 2021, and in both directions on from November 2.”

The committee chairman noted that negotiations are ongoing with Russia to ensure the passage of 150 empty vehicles. According to him, in order to reduce the throughput of the customs post Samur, a decision was made to reconstruct the customs post Khanoba.

“This year it is planned to start the work of the customs-border checkpoint, which, in turn, will further reduce the workload of the checkpoint Samur, will create conditions for the movement of additional cargo vehicles in the Russian direction, as well as eliminate the density and queues that occur when cargo vehicles pass.”
