Infrastructure and utility data in Icherisheher in Baku have been integrated into a single platform, Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration of Icherisheher, said during an event held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, according to Report.
He said one of the first major steps was the creation of a digital cadastre system: "For the first time, we combined data on buildings, land use, public spaces, underground infrastructure, engineering communications, and utilities into a unified digital platform. This significantly improved planning, interdepartmental coordination, restoration work, and operational response."
Mahmud also noted that digital transport control has reduced traffic congestion in Icherisheher: "Another important direction was smart mobility management. As you know, historic cities are extremely vulnerable to uncontrolled traffic and chaotic parking. We introduced digitally monitored vehicle entry systems, regulated parking zones, automated payment systems, and stricter traffic control mechanisms. This helped reduce transport pressure, improve pedestrian comfort, and better protect the historic urban environment."
