Passenger transportation soars by about 21% in Azerbaijan

In January-February 2023, freight and passenger transportation in Azerbaijan increased by 6.6% and 20.7%, respectively, compared to the same period last year, Report informs, citing the State Statistical Committee.

According to the Committee, business entities operating in the transport sector carried 33.8 million tons of cargo within 2 months, 53.3% of which was transported by road, 34.7% by pipeline, 8.6% by railway, 3.3% by sea, and 0.1% by air.

The volume of cargo transported by vehicles of the non-state sector increased by 4.2%, and the specific weight of this sector in the total volume of transported cargo was 74.7%.

Transport companies served 271.7 million passengers during the reporting period: 87.1% of passengers were transported by car, 12.4% by metro, and the rest by other types of transport.
