Necessary to reduce delivery time of goods by rail from Kars to Baku

Presently, the time of delivery of goods from Kars to Baku by rail takes 70 hours. It is necessary to reduce the time of cargo delivery via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Riza Tuna Turagay said at a meeting of the Trilateral Committee on Customs between the governments of Turkiye, Azerbaijan and Georgia in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that the discussions in Baku will contribute to the activation of the use of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line. "Currently, the volume of rail traffic between our countries is low, although they are very important for the growth of trade. We do not use the opportunities of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars fully. World trade is developing at a rapid pace, which requires adapting the development of transit links, infrastructure, etc."

At the August 18 meeting, the governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkiye signed an agreement on preliminary data exchange to simplify transit customs procedures on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.
