Azerbaijan appoints transport operator for Lapis Lazuli corridor

During the talks between Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan, transport operators were appointed for the Lapis Lazuli corridor, Report informs.

The purpose of the talks held in the format of a video conference was to increase the Lapis Lazuli transit transport corridor's capacity, which starts in the Afghan province of Herat and continues through Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia to Turkey.

In addition to appointing an operator, the participants agreed on issues related to optimizing the transport and logistics process, creating equal economic and financial conditions for all participants, and introducing unified pricing.

In November 2017, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey signed an agreement on establishing the Lapis Lazuli, which will provide more favorable transit and customs conditions. On December 13, 2018, a new corridor was launched in Torgundi, where the railway station of the western Afghan province, Herat, is located, and nine trucks loaded with dried fruits and spices were sent to Europe.
