On Monday AZAL President Jahangir Asgarov held a meeting with US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, Lee Litzenberger, Report informs citing AZAL.

At the meeting, the parties expressed satisfaction with the strong partnership between the two countries in the field of aviation.

According to Jahangir Asgarov, modern transport infrastructure has been created in Azerbaijan, and there is great potential for further expansion of cooperation in the transport, transit and logistics spheres: ‘In particular, Boeing, the largest US Aerospace Corporation, is a strategic partner of Azerbaijan Airlines. AZAL’s fleet includes several types of Boeing aircraft, including the modern 787-8 Dreamliner. In addition, the Open Skies agreement between Azerbaijan and the United States has been in effect since June 2016, thanks to which operators have been provided with more affordable and efficient services for passenger and cargo transportation by air’.

Thanks to the improvement of the regulatory framework of Azerbaijan’s civil aviation, the US Federal Aviation Administration has assigned our country the highest level of aviation security - “Category 1”, which made it possible to launch the direct Baku - New York - Baku flight.

Since 2005, the Silk Way Airlines has been actively developing and strengthening business relations both with US private companies and its public sector. The Silk Way Airlines is one of the air carriers recognized and certified by the relevant authorities of the USA. The close cooperation with the US TRANSCOM (The United States Transportation Command) allowed the Airline to fulfill transportation orders to all important destinations, including Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to Ambassador Litzenberger, the great potential and the created conditions open up major opportunities in the development of tourism between our countries: ‘I highly appreciate the relations between the United States and Azerbaijan, in particular the cooperation with AZAL and Silk Way, and I look forward to progress in the development of tourism’.
