Official mascot of World Championship on BMX announced

Baku. 8 May. REPORT.AZ/ The official mascot of the World Championship on BMX, to be started in Baku on June 5, has been announced. According to the information given by press service of the Azerbaijani Cycling Federation to Report, this is Caucasian leopard.

Choosing a leopard as a symbol of the championship involves elements such as balance on jumping, individuality, power and speed.

It has been identified five species of endangered animals in our region in 2012 and the concept “Big Five” of Causcaus has been compiled with the initiative of the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, Leyla Aliyeva. One of these species is the Caucasian leopard. Since that period, the IDEA Public Union has taken practical steps to protect and increase the number of threatened fauna species. The investigations of last 10 years have shown that the leopards live in the Hirkan forests, the Zangazur Range, Daridagh, Nehramdagh, and Deresham, in Akhar-Bakhar Range in the north of Mingachevir reservoir. Generally, near 20 individuals are expected to live in the territory of the Republic, including the occupied territories.
