Azerbaijan's teen wrestlers win eight medals in world championship

Baku. 9 July. REPORT.AZ/ Azerbaijani teen wrestlers have won eight medals at the world championship held in Croatia's capital Zagreb.

Report informs, members of the national team have won 2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals.

First, the team led by Vahid Mammadov ranked 4th with 4 gold and 1 bronze medals in the championship which started with the fight of freestyle wrestlers. Alihasan Amirli (48 kg) and Turan Bayramov (65 kg) won gold medals, while Abulfaz Nasirov (55 kg) bronze. Bayramov also qualified for the 3rd Youth Olympic Games being the winner of European Championship held in last month.

Only Shahana Nazarova (43 kg) won silver medals under the guidance of coaches Rovshan Umudov and Hasrat Mammadyarov among 5 female wrestlers. Sarkhan Mammadov (110 kg) won silver medal, while Gurban Gurbanov (45 kg), Hasrat Jafarov (51 kg) and Adam Hajizade (60 kg) won bronze medals among 7 Greco-Roman wrestlers  under the leadership of senior coach Bahram Murvatov.

Notably, Azerbaijan was represented by referee Abdul Nuriyev.
