Syrian man who stabbed Azerbaijani roommate in Germany sentenced

A Syrian national who stabbed 32-year-old Azerbaijani citizen Samir Guliyev has appeared before court in Germany, Report informs.

The perpetrator, 41-year-old Abdulatif Mohammad, was sentenced to two years and six months in prison.

The incident took place in 2015 in a refugee shelter in Deggendorf, Bavaria, Germany. In the evening, the Syrian man started arguing with the Azerbaijani roommate. During the testimony of witnesses in court, it became clear that Guliyev reprimanded Muhammad for speaking loudly on the phone. The dispute between the men grew into a fight. As a result, Mahammad stabbed Guliyev in the abdomen with a hunting knife. The Azerbaijani citizen was taken to hospital by helicopter. He was discharged two months after surgery.

Mohammad was detained by police at a bus stop while fleeing the scene after the incident.

The Syrian national is expected to be deported to his country after serving his sentence.
