Soldier of Azerbaijani Army held captive in Armenia given life sentence

The Court of Appeals for Criminal Cases of Armenia considered the criminal case against Huseyn Akhundov, a soldier of the Azerbaijani Army who was held captive in this country, and sentenced him to life in prison, Report informs, citing the Armenian press.

Azerbaijani soldiers Babirov Agshin Gabil (2004) and Akhundov Huseyn Ahliman (2003) went missing on April 9 due to limited visibility in bad weather conditions in the border area of the Shahbuz district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with Armenia.

The Ministry of Defense of Armenia admitted on April 13 that Azerbaijani soldiers are detained in Armenia.

Footage of a captured Azerbaijani soldier beaten and severely tortured by Armenians has been published in social networks and Armenian media.

The Armenian court sentenced Agshin Babirov to 11.5 years in prison on May 8 and Huseyn Akhundov to 20 years in prison on June 21.
