Seismic Service Center: Strong underground tremors not expected

Baku. 11 February. REPORT.AZ/ "Aftershocks following earthquake keep occurring in the country and they are expected to continue," Spokesperson for the Republican Seismological Service Center at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NASA) Vusala Rafiggizi told Report.

She said that aftershocks will continue as long as there are processes in the seismal focus: “On February 9, the next underground tremors were recorded in Agsu region. This was an aftershock. The earthquake magnitude was about three points. As we have said, aftershocks will continue as long as there are processes in the earthquake focus at the epicenter. Some of the aftershocks may be palpable. For example, aftershocks of tremors on February 5 were again tangible on February 9 evening. Simply the tremors are felt in those places where the earthquake occurred."

Rafiggizi noted that no strong aftershocks are expected: "As I have already said, aftershocks will continue in the future. Of course, it is difficult to predict the magnitude. In any case, tremors that occurred on February 5 are not expected to repeat. Low magnitude tremors are expected."
