Initial analysis of the hacker attack on information resources belonging to Global Media Group shows that its internal infrastructure was infected with malware, and the central management system was completely taken over, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis Commission against Foreign Interventions and Hybrid Threats, Ramid Namazov, said during public discussions on "Cyberattacks on Azerbaijani media outlets," Report informs.
Namazov noted that as a result of the attack, the computer belonging to the system administrator was seized, and access was gained to the server where backup copies of all Internet resources were stored.
“After that, those who carried out the attack interfered with other media outlets. As a result, web server data and backup copies were deleted, media resources were destroyed, and access to the infrastructure was restricted.”
According to him, of course, appropriate steps were immediately taken by the relevant agencies to ensure the cybersecurity of the media resources that were attacked.
"During the subsequent period, that is, after the relevant support was provided, cyberattack attempts on restored Internet information resources continued, but were prevented.
The IP (internet protocol) addresses and domains used during the attack, as well as all the group's connections, were identified. It should be noted that the attacks were also supported by domestic IPs, and it was determined that some of the individuals participating in the cyberattack were on the territory of our country, and even which hotel they were in. We are talking about foreigners. This is an indication that this is not an ordinary cyberattack."
