Number of people killed in genocide and mass killings committed by Armenia against Azerbaijanis announced

The prosecutor's office investigated several criminal cases related to the genocide and mass killings committed by Armenian armed forces against the unarmed civilian population, and a decision was made to bring the perpetrators of the crime as accused persons, as well as to choose preventive detention in absentia.

Ilgar Safarov, a senior assistant of the Prosecutor General for special tasks, junior judicial advisor, said at the joint briefing of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the crimes committed against Azerbaijan by the Armenian armed forces and illegal Armenian armed groups from 1988 to the present day:

Karkijahan massacre - 17 people were killed, seven were attempted to be killed, two were taken hostage, and 1,796 were forced to leave their permanent residence. A decision was made to bring to account 47 armed persons who committed the crimes, as well as to choose pretrial detention in absentia.

Baganis-Ayrim tragedy - 7 people were killed, two were attempted to be killed, 12 residential houses were burned, 438 were forced to leave their permanent residences. A decision was made to bring to account 18 armed persons who committed the crimes, as well as to choose pretrial detention in absentia.

Meshali genocide - 25 people were killed, 14 were attempted to be killed, two were taken hostage, 41 houses and other buildings were burned, and 358 villagers were forced to leave their permanent residence. A decision was made to bring to account nine armed persons who committed the crimes, as well as to choose pretrial detention in absentia.

Bash Guneypeye village, Aghdara district - 21 people were killed, four were attempted to be killed, and 599 were forced to leave their permanent residence.

Garadagli tragedy - 67 people were killed, two were attempted to be killed, 49 were taken hostage, and 941 were forced to leave their permanent residence. A decision was made to bring to account 12 armed persons who committed the crimes, as well as to choose pretrial detention in absentia.

Khojaly genocide - 613 people were killed, eight families were completely destroyed, 487 were attempted to be killed, 1,275 women, children, and the elderly were taken hostage and tortured, and 5,379 were forced to leave their permanent residence. A decision was made to bring to account 40 armed persons who committed the crimes, as well as to choose pretrial detention in absentia.

Bashlibel village, Kalbajar district - 12 people were killed, 14 were taken hostage, 7 of the 36 people who were surrounded died of their injuries, and 29 were forced to leave their permanent residence.

Tunnel Massacre, Kalbajar district - 26 civilians who wanted to cross the tunnel connecting 35 villages with the district center were killed, and their corpses were burned together with cars, 30 were taken hostage.
