Man smuggling drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan detained, some escaped

Baku. 28 December. REPORT.AZ/ Azerbaijan State Border Service (SBS) has neutralized organized criminal gang, engaged in the illicit trafficking of drugs.

Report informs citing the SBS press center, as a result of border guard and operational-search measures on the service area of frontier post in Edisha village, Jalilabad district on December 25, at about 11:00 pm, smuggling of large amounts of hard drugs by organized criminal gang, jointly acting with Iranian citizens, from Islamic Republic of Iran into Azerbaijan for greediness purposes has been prevented.

During the operation, Jalilabad district resident Alishov Agil Hasan, born in 1991, was detained with 1 kilogram of hashish, 7 kg 445 grams of opium and 5 kg 345 grams of heroin.

Other members of criminal gang escaped from the scene, not complying with legitimate demands of border guards and using condition of high relief.

Operational-search and investigative measures are underway to detain and prosecute those persons.
