The former head of the transit department at the Main Customs Directorate for Energy Resources and Maritime Transport under the State Customs Committee, Jeyhun Babayev, filed an appeal against the verdict of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.
Report informs that the complaint will be considered in the Baku Court of Appeal by the Criminal Collegium headed by Judge Gadim Babayev.
The Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Jeyhun Babayev to 4 years in prison.
He was also deprived of the right for two years to hold managerial or financially responsible positions in state bodies and local self-government bodies.
Babayev was detained during a joint operation conducted by the General Prosecutor's Office and the Azerbaijan State Customs Committee. He was accused of accepting a bribe from authorized representatives of the LLC to expedite the transit customs clearance of goods belonging to the shipping companies.
Jeyhun Babayev was charged under Article 311.1 (taking bribes) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
