Death toll from fire at Baku furniture workshop rises to 6 - UPDATED

As a result of the search and rescue operations at the scene of the explosion in the furniture workshop located near A. Kunanbayev Street, Binagadi District of Baku, the bodies of six people have been found and removed from the rubble, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office said, Report informs.

The fire in the workshop located on A. Kunanbayev Street, Binagadi district of Baku city, has been fully extinguished, and search and rescue operations are ongoing in the area, Colonel Rza Khudiyev, deputy head of the State Fire Protection Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, told journalists, Report informs.

According to him, the fire signal was received at 11:50, and after 6 minutes, the first fire units arrived at the scene: "As a result of the fire, 2,750 square meters of the workshops with a total area of 13,000 square meters were destroyed. The fire is completely extinguished now."

3 people died and 24 were injured in the explosion that occurred at the furniture workshop in Baku on January 15, Report informs, citing the joint information released by the General Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The employees of the prosecutor's office and the forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were immediately involved in the scene located near A. Kunanbayev Street, Binagadi district, Baku.

Due to the necessary and urgent measures taken, the fire was localized.

Operative and urgent measures are being taken to extinguish the fire by bringing special technical means and manpower to the scene.

During preliminary investigations, the bodies of 3 people were found under the rubble. 24 people received various degrees of injuries. Six of the injured were discharged after receiving first aid, while the treatment of the others continues in the hospital. The necessary medical services were provided to them, and their condition is stable.

A criminal case was launched under Articles 225.3 and 314.3 of the Criminal Code. According to the relevant decision of the Prosecutor General, an investigation team consisting of the professional investigators of the prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Emergency Situations was established, and the investigation was entrusted to the Department of Criminalistics and Information Technologies of the General Prosecutor's Office.
