Azerbaijan seizes large amount of marijuana at Iran border

As a result of complex operations — including search and customs control measures — carried out by the Astara Customs Office, another large quantity of narcotic substance, marijuana, has been detected and removed from illegal circulation, Report informs, citing the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.

At the South-Astara customs post, a vehicle carrying a load of "pepper" from Iran to Russia — transiting through the territory of Azerbaijan — was subjected to a thorough inspection with the involvement of a customs service sniffer dog.

During the inspection, 154 packages containing marijuana were discovered hidden under the pepper boxes and covered with pepper to evade customs control. The total approximate weight of the narcotics, including packaging, was 103 kg 395 grams.

An investigation is underway.
