Azerbaijan opens criminal case on Armenia’s provocation in Lachin

On June 15, at about 8 a.m. (GMT+4), the servicemen of Armenia opened fire from their positions with firearms of various calibers at the servicemen of Azerbaijan’s State Border Service at the border checkpoint located on the territory of the Lachin district. As a result, a serviceman of the State Border Service, ensign Elshan Rustamov received bullet wounds, Report informs referring to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Employees of the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Criminalistics Department and the Gubadli Military Prosecutor’s Office conduct an inspection of the scene and other necessary investigative actions.

On the fact, the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office initiated a criminal case under Articles 29,120.2.1, 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4 and 29,120.2.11, 29,120.2.12 (attempted murder committed by a group of persons, a group of persons by prior conspiracy, an organized group or a criminal community (criminal organization); in connection with the performance of official activities by this person or the performance of public duty; committed with special cruelty or in a generally dangerous way; associated with robbery, extortion, terrorism; or banditry; motivated by national, racial, religious hatred or enmity), and also 214.2.1. 214.2.3 and 214.2.4 (terrorism committed by a group of persons by prior agreement, by an organized group or a criminal association (criminal organization); repeatedly; with the use of firearms and items used as weapons) of the Criminal Code, a preliminary investigation is underway.

Elshan Rustamov was hospitalized, his condition is stable.

Details of the incident will be made public after inspection of the scene and other investigative actions.
