ANAMA head meets with UN Assistant Secretary-General

The Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), Vugar Suleymanov, has met with the Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas of the UN Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, Miroslav Jenča, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva, Report informs, citing the Agency.

A presentation was presented on the history of the establishment of the Agency, its goals and tasks, and the progress of humanitarian demining operations carried out in the Karabakh region on priority projects. ANAMA informed about pieces of training conducted according to International Minesweeping Standards. Also, the delegation was informed of the statistics on mine incidents after the Patriotic War.

At the meeting aimed at getting acquainted with the current mine problem and demining operations, Miroslav Jenča stated that the UN intends to contribute to the further development of the close cooperation between ANAMA and the UN and the activities carried out in the direction of humanitarian demining. He expressed hope that mine incidents will be prevented as a result of joint efforts.
